Instructor Course Policies
Preliminary:
- The Instructor Development Session runs from 8 AM to 4:30 PM. Being on time is important and it will be up to the instructor’s discretion to allow you into the course if you show up late.
- Indoor shoes, not worn outside, are required. Please, at the very least, bring socks.
- Breath for Life has vending machines with beverages and snack food. Please bring toonies, loonies and quarters as large bills will not be accepted.
- Breath for Life has a kitchenette. You may store your lunches in the fridge.
- Breath for Life takes pride in being a clean and safe facility for public use. Your cooperation at keeping the facility clean and safe for all students is greatly appreciated.
Skills Development Session (One day)
- Attending the Skills Development Session is mandatory. You must be successful in this course to register into the On-Line and In-class Sessions.
- Your certificate must be current within one year of the Skill Development Session date. This is important to demonstrate skill proficiency.
- If you feel that you are uncertain about skill proficiency it is strongly recommended that you take the Standard First Aid Renewal Course.
- There are mandatory printing requirements that you will find in your Confirmation/Receipt. The Skills Checklist needs to be printed and will be used to sign you off as you demonstrate skill proficiency.
- By registering into the date of the Skills Development session, you agree to the Instructor Course dates (Steps 3 and 4) that are offered as a package for this session – there will be no mixing and matching of course dates if future dates are posted.
- If you decide to take the On-Line and In-Class Session at a later date you will be required to retake the Skill Development Session at full fee.
- Registering and paying for the Skills Development Session is non-refundable. This purchase is final sale.
- If you are late for the Skills Development Session, and access into the course is denied, no refund will be issued.
- If your certificate is not current (within one year) on the date of the Skills Development Session, you will not be allowed to attend and no refund will be issued.
- There will be no refunds if you do not complete the session.
- There will be no refunds if you cannot make it to the session, whatever the reason.
- If you are unsuccessful at demonstrating Skill Proficiency, no refund will be issued.
- Please note: If this session falls on a long weekend your course booking is considered final sale.
- All pre-requisite requirements must be presented on the date of the Skill Development Session. Please have this information available.
- Upon successful completion of the Skill Development Session you may register into Steps 3 & 4 (the Online and In-class Sessions) on the Breath for Life website.
Policies for the Online and In-class Sessions
- This session, when paid is final sale. The cost of the Skills Development Session and this session have been broken up to ease the burden of a full payment into the Instructor’s Course with your initial registration.
- You cannot book into another Online and In-class Session without taking the Skills Development Session.
- Materials when issued are non-refundable and represent, through the purchase of the materials, that you are committed to the course.
- If you are late for the Online and In-class Sessions, and access into the course is denied, no refund will be issued. Being on time is mandatory.
- There will be no refunds if you do not complete the sessions or are unsuccessful.
- There will be no refunds if you cannot make it to the session, whatever the reason.
Policies for the Teaching Experience (also Teaching Experience Only)
- Breath for Life expects commitment to the Teaching Experience. Cancellations will be regarded as a fail and will jeopardize your completion of the Instructor Course.
- If you cancel out of your Teaching Experience Course date, there will be a charge of $250.00 plus tax, to rebook – this is over and above the monies paid for the Skill Development Session.
- Breath for Life expects full participation and commitment to the process. By becoming a Red Cross Instructor you are becoming an ambassador of the Canadian Red Cross. Your preparation reflects your commitment.
- If you do the Teaching Experience through a different company, other than the IDC where you took your Instructor Course, it is on you to ensure that the Instructor is TES certified. If you do not, and you do the Teaching Experience, it does not count as a valid experience.
- If the Teaching Experience Supervisor is not convinced that your preparation is sufficient to facilitate a class, you may be asked to leave. This will result in an unsuccessful attempt at your Teaching Experience.
- As per the Instructor Development Program, Lesson Plans must be completed two weeks prior to the Teaching Experience date. If this is not completed your first teaching experience will be regarded as a fail and a $250.00 + tax will be required, to rebook into another Teaching Experience.
- Mandatory meetings with your Teaching Experience Supervisor must be held. These will be scheduled two weeks prior to the Teach Experience date, and one week prior to the Teaching Experience date. It is not up to the TES to contact you.
- If Breath for Life hosts your Teaching Experience, you are required to email the office with dates that correspond to the dates posted in the Standard First Aid course.
