Emergency First Aid – In Class
Basic or Emergency First Aid Full Course
Level C or A CPR
In-class Training
The Basic or Emergency First Aid Full Course, formerly known as Emergency First Aid in Alberta, approved by OH&S through the Canadian Red Cross, fulfills the requirements of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) for Basic First Aid content delivery. Summary: Breath for Life’s offering of the Basic or Emergency First Aid course in Alberta is OH&S approved and meets CSA standards through the Canadian Red Cross.
This one-day Emergency First Aid in-class course focuses on Primary Challenges involving Airway, Breathing and Circulatory concerns. Primary challenges that lead to Shock are life-threatening emergencies which require immediate 911 activation and ongoing First Aid support until EMS arrives. Topics such as choking, asthma, anaphylaxis and angina are explored with an emphasis placed on recognition and treatment. Stroke recognition is also prioritized, as the frequency of stroke occurrence across Canada is high, and a person’s recovery depends on rapid EMS response time to Emergency.
Shock awareness, a central concern of life-threatening emergencies, will be explored during the Emergency First Aid course to better recognize and help a person in a medical and/or traumatic crisis. CPR delivery and AED use is a primary consideration of the Emergency First Aid course to achieve a more favorable resuscitation outcome when a person enters into Cardiac Arrest. Cardiac Arrest is a leading cause of death in Canada with less than a 10% survival rate. Knowing how to deliver these two basic elements of care, may improve a person’s chance of survival. Please review the Basic or Emergency First Aid Full Course Topics covered in this course which also include common soft tissue injuries.
The Emergency First Aid Course also covers basic soft tissue injuries. Considerations such as burn care, wound care and prevention of infection, among others, is covered. This course covers fewer topics than a Intermediate First Aid Course, and is appropriate for those who work in a Low to Medium hazard workplace.
