What courses are offered by Breath for Life?

Mask Fit Testing

Breath for Life performs qualitative mask fit testing performed by its Occupational Health Trained Professional; testing follows legislative and CSA standards.

As mask manufactures have produced a vast array of different makes, models and sizes of masks, Breath for Life does not stock or supply masks for fit-testing: we are not a warehouse. It is important that you know the mask that you will be expected to wear in your workplace, practicum, etc and that you supply your own mask for mask fit testing.

At Breath for Life a Mask Fit Test is conducted by placing the wearer of the mask through various challenges as a bitter mist is introduced into the hood. A test is dependent on the person’s sensitivity to the taste of bitterness and a certificate is awarded if there is no mask seal leak throughout the test. Mask seal leakage typically means that mask is either an improper fit or some other problem is at play.

Variables that affect successful mask fit testing include: the quality of mask, mask size and facial features (being clean shaven is mandatory). Not every mask is of equal quality and the mask you select for a mask fit testing, or want to use, must be specific to your facial size and features. With successful Mask Fit Testing you are allowed to use the mask, and no other mask, that you have been certified to wear. If mask fit testing is successful a certificate will be issued to you. Certificates are valid for 2 years dependent on your employer.

- There are no group rates for this service however Breath for Life will come on-site for groups of 10 or more
