Welcome to your Red Cross First Aid/CPR Instructor Renewal course. Breath for Life is one many Canadian Red Cross’ Instructor Development (IDP) centers. Please read more about Instructor Development Centers.

To qualify for this course, the registrant must have a current Red Cross First Aid/CPR Instructor certificate and have taught a minimum of 3 Canadian Red Cross courses within the certification period. Courses that apply include: Intermediate Standard First Aid and/or Basic Emergency First Aid (In-class, blended and recertification courses qualify). To be able to teach Workplace (OHS) courses in Alberta you must have completed an applicable Red Cross regional update (ie. First Aid Revisions 2025).

First Aid/CPR Instructor Renewal Course Specifics:

• This course is delivered in-class only: there is no virtual delivery of this course.
• The legislation and professional development content will be included in the First Aid/CPR Instructor Renewal course.
• Instructors with multiple course certifications will continue to recertify each course discipline separately (eg. First Aid Instructor, Professional Responder Instructor and Wilderness & Remote First Aid Instructor). One course must have been taught in each discipline that they wish to recertify (course taught must be at the highest level of certification within each discipline).
• Skills checklists are no longer required unless you are renewing during your 6 month grace period. Please note:  The grace period is not an extension. Instructors are not allowed to teach during the grace period granted by the Canadian Red Cross as the instructor certification ticket is expired.

First Aid/CPR Instructor Renewal Course Completion Criteria:

• Successfully demonstrates discipline specific instructional and skill proficiency (assigned in class)
• Adheres to the Canadian Red Cross Standards of Behavior and a Group Charter (created in class)
• Attends and participates in 100% of the course – this includes actively participating throughout the session.

Instructor Renewal Course Details:

• Time:  8AM to 230PM
• Duration:  6 hours (in-class)
• Cost: $200.00 + GST = $210.00  (Price also includes a Digital Recertification workbook)
